This year, Chicago Teacher, Inc kicked off its first ever Extreme Classroom Makeover Contest for teachers in the Chicago-land area. Applicants sent in
pictures and a brief story about a favorite colleague who was an outstanding teacher but maybe needed a little sprucing up in the classroom. For one
reason or another. We had applicants that included an art teacher, a special ed teacher, even a teacher who has a classroom in a local hospital! It was
so hard to select just one winner, Chicago Teacher opted to send each of the finalist a box of product to inspire them.
It was hard choosing the most worthy, but in the end we selected a teacher whose position was temporarily eliminated by CPS. After the position was re-instated, she returned to find most of her material gone. An all too common occurrence...
We choose the 6th-8th grade teacher at Haines Elementary, in the Chicago Public Schools. It was a challenge due to the strange sea murals and abundance of science equipment. Our goal was to organize her room with clean labels, bins, pocket charts, coordinating product, and simple decoration that all tied together to make an inviting environment for her and her students.
